Currently the Department of Information and Communications Technology offers two different degrees: a Bachelor in Telecommunication and a Bachelor in Application Development.
Within the last few years the Information and Communication Sector has shown significant growth within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The government has acknowledged the importance of the ICT sector and subsequently ICT development has become a centrepiece of national economic policies. Government forecasts show that the ICT sector will develop as one of the biggest economic sectors in Saudi Arabia by 2020. As a result, the demand for well qualified experts will increase considerably within the next years. Qualified graduates of ICT departments will be needed as vocational educators to train future generations of trainees. Thus, graduates of the TTC’s ICT department will enjoy excellent employment prospects.
During the first semesters the curriculum of both Bachelor’s degrees covers the same subject matter. Building upon the basics of programming the trainees learned during their diploma studies the first courses are designed to significantly increase their programming capabilities. Additionally, trainees learn to use programming languages relevant for software development and to understand the basic concepts of programming and application languages. Courses in Mathematic Algebra and Data Communication will increase the trainees’ understanding of the fundamentals of their chosen vocational discipline.
In the later stages of the programme trainees receive thorough training in their field of specialisation. In the Application Development Bachelor, trainees will increase their knowledge in computer programming learning to work in Open Source operating systems as well as in high level programming languages such as C/C++. Furthermore, trainees learn to establish and maintain network systems and databases and to design websites demonstrating creative interface design (e.g. JavaScript and PHP). Additionally, the trainees will be taught to plan, organize and manage complete information or communications applications projects which may cover various purposes and duties of software application, database or website development or any other subject-relevant issue.
Building upon the skills learned during the first semesters, trainees of Telecommunications at TTC will learn to program and maintain different communication systems, such as optical communication systems or microwave and satellite communication systems. At the end of the programme, trainees have acquired competencies of the technical aspects of modern communication and telecommunication. They will be able to design, install, maintain and configure sophisticated telecommunications systems.
